Communication in the foreign language classroom

Communication in the foreign language classroom.

Communication is the activity or process of expressing ideas and feelings or of giving people information, according to Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, but I would like to add by means of a common system of linguistic symbols.

Therefore, communication in our classes is an important aspect to take into account as well as to help young learners to their personal and holistic develpment and facilitate different ways to experience the world around them so that they have to learn how to develop their linguistic skills and acquire a good communicative competence.

For students with special needs such as ASD it is useful to also use visual supports to make them easier the comprehension in a foreign language. I use the ARASAAC system http://www.arasaac.org/ . The same system as they use in their special needs class, called "Aula de Comunicación y Lenguaje o Aula CyL" in the Valencian Community.

Finally, it is better to remember that it is best to introduce the foreign language, in this case, the English language through listening and speaking first, and reading and writing last because this is the nature way for children to acquire their mother tongue but without forgetting the visual support.

I hope you like this post. See you next week!
